Oct. 11 - A double bill featuring ANDREW CALHOUN and SANDY WEISTO. At age seven, Andrew Calhoun memorized W. B. Yeats' &#34;Song of Wandering Aengus,&#34; thus earning a nickel from his mother. He got his first guitar in 1967 at the age of ten, and began writing songs at twelve. By the late seventies, he was performing in the Chicago folk scene. In 1992, Calhoun founded Waterbug Records, an artists' cooperative folk label which has grown to 70 titles, bringing some of the brightest singer-songwriters and folk musicians to an international audience. His own recordings have been released on Hogeye, Flying Fish and Waterbug Records.<br /> <br /> On stage he is disarmingly unpretentious, spontaneous, insightful and darkly witty, as he weaves a tapestry that includes not only his original songs, but Scottish ballads that he has translated from dialect, and poems and songs by such exceptional writers as Dave Carter, Mary Oliver and Robert Frost.<br /> <br /> He recently released his eleventh album, Bound to Go, which includes authentic spirituals, shout songs from the Sea Islands, prison ballads and rare secular folk songs. In memory of Joy Calhoun, who worked for justice in the Civil Rights movement, 10% of income from sales goes to support programs for children, half to College of Charleston's African-American history camps, half to Williams Preparatory Academy Arts programs, 2710 S. Dearborn in Chicago.<br /> <br /> Coffee House manager Sandy Weisto has been a fixture in the behind the scenes work of the Milwaukee folk scene for many years. She also hosts the Tuesday Night Open Mic at the Miramar Theatre. Know for her work with the trio Sweet Diversity, Sandy celebrates diversity and universal themes of peace, beauty and justice with skillful fingerstyle guitar and sensitive vocal interpretations. The Iraq Moratorium is a national grassroots effort which asks people to break their routines on the third Friday of each month and take some action, individually or with a group, to oppose the war.
